My time as a summer associate at Hite, Fanning & Honeyman, LLP was educational and enjoyable. As a summer associate, I was able to work on projects for every partner of the firm, which allowed me to experience many different areas of law. Not only did this help me to determine what kind of law I would like to practice, but it also allowed me to receive feedback from practicing attorneys. Also, I gained invaluable experience by writing motions and attending depositions, trials, and mediations. Additionally, the attorneys at Hite, Fanning & Honeyman, LLP were interested in getting to know me, my interests, and personality, which made me feel welcome and helped me to decide if the Firm was a “fit” for me. I was invited to attend many lunches, dinners, and Wichita Bar Association events, such as playing lawyer league softball and attending Wichita Young Lawyers’ Association meetings.

Former Summer Associate

My experience as a summer associate for Hite, Fanning & Honeyman gave me a fantastic opportunity to observe and participate in the daily life of a “real world” attorney. My time was spent on a healthy mix of various legal research projects from each of the firm’s practice areas, assisting in preparation for oral argument and trial, and observing depositions, client meetings, and courtroom proceedings. But only describing my time with the firm in terms of work would be very misleading. I saw clearly how much the firm values having attorneys that engage the Wichita community by encouraging participation in Wichita Young Lawyers social hours, lawyers-league softball, and other Wichita Bar Association events. This attitude was ever present within the office, as the attorneys were extremely accessible and welcomed any questions I had, often accompanied by an invitation to lunch. By the end of the summer, I was certainly pleased with how much I had learned and the friends I made along the way.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my summer at Hite, Fanning & Honeyman, LLP and have gained an invaluable experience.   Although I had two years of law school under my belt before beginning my summer internship, I now realize how little I knew about the practice of law.  I was able to attend numerous depositions, trials, and oral arguments, and I vastly improved my research and writing abilities by drafting various memoranda and trial briefs.   Every project I worked on was unique and concerned an area of the law I previously knew little or nothing about.  After having been exposed to so many difference facets of the law, I now know exactly what area of law I want to pursue.  Not only did I greatly expand my knowledge of the law during my summer experience, but I also gained many valuable friendships over the course of numerous lunches, social events, and lawyer league softball games.  The firm is made up of very talented attorneys, and everyone’s office door was always open.
